Meet Jessica, a resident of the small town of Lismore, which was struck by a devastating flood in 2022, leaving her and her young child in despair. Their world turned upside down as they found themselves without necessities and overwhelmed by the chaos around them. However, Jessica’s willpower set her on a remarkable journey towards hope and stability.
Jessica’s determination guided her to secure a new rental property in the neighbouring town of Ballina. The burden of rent stress, which added to the emotional chaos caused by the flood, soon took a toll on her. Overwhelmed and uncertain about her future, Jessica sought support.
During this challenging period, Jessica connected with Momentum Collective’s dedicated Case Workers. It was through their guidance that she uncovered the Rent Assistance Program, which offered the stability and essential resources she needed to sustain her new home. The support from our Specialist Homelessness Services team was pivotal in empowering Jessica to rebuild her life.
The support went beyond that. Jessica’s Case Manager recognised the importance of holistic care and referred her to mental health services provided by NSW Health. Through counselling and therapy, Jessica discovered the strength and resilience to overcome the challenges that lay ahead, prioritising her mental wellbeing and regaining control of her life.
Today, Jessica is a living example of how persistence and community support can make a big difference. She overcame the challenges brought on by the flood, and now she’s a source of hope for others going through similar things. Her story reminds us that even when things are really hard, there’s always a way to move forward and find hope, even in the toughest times.
If you or someone you know is facing similar challenges, remember that Momentum Collective is here to offer assistance. Our programs and dedicated Case Manager are ready to guide you towards a brighter future.
