For some, a break away from the routine of daily life offers well deserved rest for individuals and members of their support network alike. Otherwise known as respite, breaks like these are often sought in Short Term Accommodation (STA) and for people with disability support programs using NDIS funding can also be included such as activities, outings and assistance with daily tasks. Whether it is emergency or planned respite, or even just a chance to relax in a new place, STA is a great opportunity.
Meet Fred
Take Fred’s experience as an example of how enriching a stay in STA can be. In March, Fred enjoyed a fantastic few days in Evans Head, New South Wales. Travelling an hour from his home in Goonellabah, he found relaxation by walking along the river and beaches and was at peace in his own space when in the unit rented for him.
Fred says he regularly uses STA to have a break away from his family, explore new places and try new activities. The independence he experiences when enjoying these stays has a significant impact on his overall health.
It’s not all rest and relaxation for Fred though. On this most recent trip he went ten-pin bowling, which is one of his favourite activities to do! Another highlight was dining out at a few of the local restaurants, trying new foods and encounters.
Experiences like Fred’s are made available as part of our STA program which includes various activities and outings designed to promote engagement and enjoyment. Whether it’s exploring local attractions, participating in community events or simply enjoying nature, there’s always something to look forward to. Our goal is to provide enriching experiences that cater to everyone’s interests and preferences.
