Phill’s blissful future in his new home

Phill recently moved into Momentum Collective’s brand new, purpose-built Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) home in Murwillumbah. 

From previously living in a shared house in Bundall, Queensland, Phill did not get to see his family and friends as often as he hoped to. His biggest dream was to secure a high-functioning and accessible home as Phill experienced a brain injury ten years ago, which left him in a wheelchair. He also was hoping to be closer to his family. 

To Phill’s excitement, his dream became a reality after he received a call from one of Momentum’s Service Manager, Nurit Jait, to break the news: he had successfully secured a home in Murwillumbah. 

Phill was overjoyed at the prospect of living only 20 minutes away from his three children, as well as returning to his old neighbourhood.  

Fast forward to his move-in date, Phill was surprised by a grand welcoming party. As he arrived, he was greeted with a cheerful sight of balloons outside his front door. Walking through the house, he was welcomed with a delicious platter and a cake placed on the table to celebrate this momentous new chapter in his life.

Every room in the house, from the hallways to the kitchen area, laundry, bedrooms, and even the outside patio, has been thoughtfully designed to accommodate Phill’s wheelchair needs. 

Phill’s close friend partner Lee accompanied him on the launch day, and she loved seeing Phill so happy. 

“Before his accident, Phill used to go kayaking with his family at Hastings Point, and now that he’s living closer, his kids and grandkids are looking forward to getting him back in the kayak again!” 

“He was patiently waiting to move into his new home, and now that the day is here, I am just so happy to watch Phill thrive in his new home.” 

There are more adventures waiting for Phill who enjoys watching horse racing. Now he and his Momentum Support Worker, David, plan to venture to his new local horse racetrack. Next on their list is golfing at the Murwillumbah Golf Club and zooming around in a golf buggy.
