When the winter chill sets in, we often reach for our jackets and blankets to stay warm. Yet, imagine a world where these simple pleasures remain distant dreams for people struggling with the harsh realities of homelessness. That’s where Homelessness Week 2023 comes in – an opportunity for us to make a real difference and raise awareness of the issue.
If you want to give back this Homelessness Week, you can donate to our 24/7 Kindness Wall. We launched this heartfelt project outside our Tweed Heads Head Office last year to provide warmth and support to vulnerable individuals, especially during the cold months.
It’s a straightforward concept – donate spare jackets or blankets, and those who need an item can take one. The best part is this idea caught on, and it’s not just about winter anymore.
What’s meaningful regarding this initiative is how it encourages us to think differently about what we no longer need. Instead of throwing things away, we can contribute to a cycle of kindness. It’s a small change that has a significant impact on those who receive the items and our environment.
Since its initiation, the Kindness Wall has grown, and you can even find one outside the Casino Neighbourhood Centre. Local community members have been donating hand-knitted scarves, beanies, and food, and the impact has been incredible.
