Welcome to our guide on exploring employment opportunities tailored to your unique needs and aspirations. We’ll provide insights into Australian Disability Enterprises (ADE) and open employment options, making you feel empowered to make informed decisions aligned with your goals.

Understanding Supports in Employment

Supports in Employment, previously known as Specialised Supported Employment, are day to day assistance in the workplace to maintain employment. The NDIS may fund them, including employment-related assessment and counselling, workplace assistance and School Leaver Employment Supports. The NDIS’s new pricing for employment support gives participants more excellent choice and control over where and how they work, including options like private enterprise, social enterprise and ADEs.

You can learn more about the NDIS’s Supports in Employment by checking out their handbook here.

Understanding ADEs:

ADE is vital employment support for people living with a disability who requires significant workplace assistance. Formerly known as sheltered workshops, ADE primarily employ individuals with an intellectual disability or individuals living with a mental health condition.

Benefits and Considerations:

ADE offers a supportive environment tailored to the needs of people with a disability. It provides structured support, skill development and a sense of purpose. It’s important to note the limitations compared to open employment, which offers higher wages, more social participation, and greater opportunities for skill development and career advancement.

Transitioning to Open Employment:

The NDIS facilitates greater flexibility in seeking employment outside ADEs, empowering individuals to explore open employment options while receiving tailored assistance. This transition enhances economic prospects and fosters improved quality of life, social participation and overall wellbeing.

Momentum Collective offers various meaningful employment opportunities at our Recycler’s Op Shop, Salvage Shed and Grounds Crew Maintenance Program.
